| Abstract in Lingua Inglese | P.A. Saccardo's work was fundamental for the advancement of mycological studies. He began to study fungi of the Veneto Region, then of entire Italy, and gradually those of all over the world, with the collaboration of several scholars. With his sporological system he gave a basic systematic contribution to the classification of Ascomycetes and Deuteromycetes; some of his intuitions about certain systematic principles are still valid today. His Sylloge fungorum is still irreplaceable for bibliographical research in mycology. |
