Abstract in Lingua Inglese In order to portray Robert Visiani a short review of his scientific botanical work is presented. Visiani, the scientist, is a botanis-florist in the first place, then a botanist-paleontologist, and finally a horticultural expert. He is deserving credit just for his investigations into flora. By this we do not mean the registration and numbering of the individual species for individual regions, but his critical approach and critical analysis of individual plant froms. Visiani described many new plant species, a number of which are still accepted in science after having withstood a hundred year-old criticism not only by classic, comparative-morphological methods, but also by modern methods of contemporary taxonomy. This has placed him side by side to the great botanists like Linne, and al. Visiani's life-work is "FLORA DALMATICA" printed in three volumes from 1842-1852, and two Supplements were printed in 1872. and 1877. In Dalmatia Visiani registered over 2,700 plant species. This work is still the basic resource of data when Dalmatian flora is studied. The greater part of this study dwells upon the accuracy of Visiani's diagnosis of the collected plants, and on the attitude of the contemporary scientific floristics regarding those diagnoses, and on his fruitful collaboration with Josip Pancic.
